Planned Parenthood Action Fund Applauds President Biden’s Support for Supreme Court Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning, President Biden announced his support for Supreme Court reform, including term limits and enforceable ethics policies for Supreme Court justices — reforms that Planned Parenthood organizations have supported.

Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

“We know abortion opponents have weaponized our federal courts and if they have their way — as they’ve laid out in Project 2025 — more and more of our rights will be taken away. This is about our fundamental freedom, and whether our courts will protect that freedom or eat away at it one decision at a time. We applaud President Biden’s commitment to strengthen our democracy and the institutions it depends on.”

Term limits for Supreme Court justices would allow justices to be appointed to serve 18 year terms, making terms more predictable and less dependent on unexpected vacancies. Ethics policies with an enforceable code of conduct — including gift disclosure, avoiding engaging in public political activity, and making certain that justices recuse themselves from cases in which they or their partner have a financial or other personal stake in the outcome — will make the justices more accountable to the public and help restore public trust in the Supreme Court. In 2023, Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced support for court reform. More about the policies Planned Parenthood organizations support can be found here .
